Twenty-piece big band returns to Aruba

ORANJESTAD – The Ithaca Ageless Jazz Band, which delighted audiences yesterday at the Sonesta Suites, will perform again tonight at the La Cabana All-Suite Beach Resort, 7-10p.m. The group, a twenty-piece big band from Ithaca, New York, has returned to the island for its sixth consecutive year to perform free-of-charge for Aruba audiences during its ten-day visit.

This fantastic swing band invites both residents and visitors to the island to come and dance under the stars during one or all of its subsequent performances. The band will continue its free concerts tonight and Sunday, January 3 and 4(sic.), at the La Cabana All-Suite Beach Resort, 7-10p.m. The band will next perform at the Amsterdam Manor Beach Resort, 4-8p.m., on Monday January 6. On Tuesday, January 7, the band will again perform at the Sonesta Suites at the Seaport Village. On Thursday, January 9, the group can be heard at the Radisson Aruba Caribbean Resort, 4-8p.m. For its final performance, the band will perform at the Sonesta Suites from 5 to 9p.m.

Formed in 1990, the Ithaca Ageless Jazz Band is comprised of musicians whose love for swing music has made them one of the finest big bands in New York.

The band has been featured on the nationally televised CBS This Morning show, and has had numerous articles written about them throughout New York. The band features five saxophones, three trombones, six trumpets, a french horn, keyboards, guitar, brass(sic.), and drums. Allison Wells is the featured vocalist, and the band is led by the amazing sax of John Slate. The Ithaca Ageless Jazz Band plays music by big band greats such as Glenn Miller, Count Basie and Duke Ellington. Aruban musicians are invited to come sit in with the band.
